World's deadliest volcanoes identified: Indonesia's population most at risk from eruptions

The first detailed assessment of global volcanic risk, part of a larger international hazard assessment released on 4 March by the United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction, will provide a detailed look at global volcanic risk and reveal the world’s deadliest volcanoes, in an attempt to save lives through prevention and response measures.

“For the first time, we really have a shared understanding of volcanic activity at the global scale,” said co-author Jean-Christophe Komorowski, a volcanologist at the Institute of Earth Physics in Paris, according to Nature. “This is a major turning point.”
