Speaking Tuesday at Jamaica's launch of the global campaign - Making Cities Resilient: 'My City is Getting Ready!' - Noel Arscott, the minister of local government and community development, related the results of a recent earthquake test on critical services buildings in Jamaica, according to the Jamaica Observer.

"The finding is somewhat startling and this poses a serious challenge for central and local government disaster management agency, environment planning agency and our international partners," the minister said. However, reports the Observer, with the 'Making Cities Resilient: My City is Getting Ready' campaign underway in Jamaica, policy makers can realign their focus to enhance disaster risk reduction measures and create a disaster resilient Jamaica.
