IDB and Oxfam will explore opportunities to jointly tackle development challenges in Latin America and the Caribbean

Oxfam and the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) have signed a memorandum of understanding to formalize their commitment to collaborate on key development projects and initiatives to overcome poverty and inequality in Latin America and the Caribbean.

Oxfam and the IDB agreed to work jointly on some of the region’s most pressing challenges, in areas such as water and sanitation, solid waste management, disaster risk reduction and adaptation, gender equity and diversity, and climate change and renewable energy, among others.

Initially, the partners will focus their collaboration in Bolivia, Colombia, Guatemala, Haiti, Honduras and Nicaragua.

“Many women and men in our region continue to live in poverty and face enormous challenges over access to food, employment and the threat of natural disasters. By collaborating with the IDB, we can develop cutting-edge, inclusive and impactful solutions to overcome some of the region’s biggest challenges,” said Françoise Vanni, Oxfam’s Regional Director for the Latin American and Caribbean Region.

“Oxfam has a well-deserved reputation for excellence and for championing the cause of the poor worldwide, and we look forward to exploring with them new and better ways to fight poverty in our region,” said Bernardo Guillamon, Manager of the IDB’s Office of Outreach and Partnerships.
