The Arbeiter-Samariter-Bund Deutschland (ASB) is one of the biggest German aid and welfare organisations with more than 300 branches at national, regional, district and municipal level all over the country. ASB Foreign Aid Department provides both direct emergency relief to people hit by man-made or natural disasters and longer-term rehabilitation measures designed to promote recovery and to rapidly help restore the livelihood of refugees, internally displaced persons and other vulnerable people. ASB implements its Foreign Aid activities in Asia, Africa, Central America and Eastern Europe. ASB has been working in Georgia already from 1992 to 1997 and reopened its office in the country late 2010, focusing on Livelihood activities for Internally Displaced Persons, Disaster Risk Reduction and the provision of Social Services for the most vulnerable.

ASB Georgia is announcing a vacancy for the position of Project Manager (Disaster Risk Reduction), based in Tbilisi with frequent travels to the project region.

Summary of project and job profile:

Establish, oversee and deliver an inclusive DRR educational project targeting at the residents of 50 Collective Centers as well as representatives from host communities in Samegrelo region in order to strengthen the resilience of this population and to mitigate negative impacts of natural disasters on them. The project focuses on the delivery of simple, practical and non-technical DRR information bearing in mind the characteristics of people with disabilities. Initiative Groups will be familiarized with the main concept of disaster preparedness, evacuation standards and regular drills in Collective Centers will be established and basic knowledge in First Aid adapted to persons without any medical background delivered. The intervention is financed by the German Federal Foreign Office and will run until December 15, 2013.

The Project Manager is responsible to manage, oversee and structure all project related activities concerning implementation, monitoring and narrative reporting. S/he closely interacts with the Finance Manager based in Tbilisi ASB office to ensure tight budget control as well as efficient and transparent tender procedures and is responsible for the management of a team of four DRR trainers, one Project Assistant as well as two drivers. The Project Manager will be expected to contribute to the further development of ASBs strategy and activities in the country. The position reports directly to ASB Head of Office in Tbilisi.

Key requirements:


• Sound experience in planning, implementing and managing development projects in Georgia
• Experience in managing educational DRR projects is an asset
• Understanding of national, regional and international DRR strategies and policies
• Excellent information, training and outreach skills including experience in producing relevant and targeted information content as well as design effective information delivery mechanisms
• Experience of working with people with special needs
• Coaching and team building skills are essential
• Good documentation and reporting skills
• Fluency in Georgian and English
• Advanced knowledge of Word and Excel
• International donor experience
• Experience of at least two years working in a similar position with a local or international organization
• Degree in relevant discipline
