Thailand: Downstream residents prepare for floods
As reported by the Bangkok Post, people living on the Chao Phraya River are preparing for a possible inundation despite government assurances that there will be no repeat of last year's flooding. Residents raise questions about the effectiveness of the government's flood prevention scheme following government's failure to project and prevent flooding in 2011.
"It is easy to talk [about flood prevention], but it is difficult to do. I have never believed what the government said. I'd rather protect my house and my belongings from the possible deluge," said Suporn Sirisoi-ngern, a 49-year-old resident, while building a low concrete wall in front of his house.
