Job summary

Main objective of this position is to assist Deputy Manager - Climate Change and Disaster Management and initiate to mainstream CCA activities in targeted LRPs. Along with other development and thematic priorities and activities of LRP level this position will be responsible to incorporate CCA related activities i.e. capacity building, community based CC related risk analysis, prepare adaptation plane for and by the community, prepare participatory budget and implement adaptation options in the community, identify advocacy issue for local, regional and national level, generate and document evidences from local level and effectively utilizing those evidences for advocacy.

Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to

Mainstreaming DRR and CCA through capacity building programme and project staffs (at LRPs and AAB level)

  • Organize/facilitate training for LRP and other partners staff on CCA;
  • Support Local Rights Programme (LRP)s to incorporate and integrate climate resilience and related disaster management in their development planning;
  • Provide technical assistance for quality implementation of the planned activities;
  • Regular monitoring and assessment of local level activities and guide accordingly;

Documentation and sharing of lessons

  • Initiate to generate and document critical knowledge, evidences and alternative processes, solutions to be used in policy advocacy at local and national level;
  • Sharing of knowledge through organising events (seminars, workshops, dialogues);
  • Assist in report writing and proposal development for fundraising;

Facilitate policy advocacy on climate

  • Identify policy barriers hampering the promotion of climate resilience at grassroots level;
  • Assist to design campaign/ advocacy in consultation with LRPs and SPs to effectively address policy barriers;
  • Assist to facilitate networking and alliance building at local and national level in support of policy demands;

Programme monitoring and evaluation

  • Regular field visit and monitor the activities at field level to ensure quality and timely implementation of planned activities related to Climate Change;
  • Ensure proper documentation of all activities and lesson learns;

Relationships

S/he will report to Deputy Manager - Climate Change and Disaster Management of ActionAid Bangladesh. S/he is expected to maintain functional relationship with his/her peers in team, priority and project teams as well as with peers in other NGOs. Also maintain relationship with relevant Government agencies and others.

Required qualification and competencies

  • Postgraduate degree, on development/ social science/ anthropology/ geography/ environment from a reputed university;
  • At least 3 years of experience in national level NGOs or INGOs on climate change and disaster management;
  • Research and advocacy skill is required;
  • A strong and committed team player with the potential to develop authority, credibility and visibility throughout the organization;
  • A commitment to develop, promote and practice ActionAid’s vision, mission, values and strategy;
  • Training facilitation and interpersonal skills;
  • Ability to work under extreme pressure and deadline;
  • Good communication and reporting skills (oral and written) in both Bangla and English.
