Workshop aims

To enhance an understanding among the disaster managers and development practitioners about community based approaches to disaster risk management, its relationship with sustainable community development and participatory tools and techniques for disaster and development.

Course structure

CBDRM training has been developed into 4 modular courses, each dealing with specific set of activities within disaster risk management framework. In order to minimize the logistics and travel time of the learners, the entire course is delivered in 2 clusters (2 modules per cluster) of 5 days each.

CBDRM1

This 2 days learning workshop is the first introductory module on community based Approaches to disaster management (CBDM). This module aims at introducing basic concepts of community based disaster risk management and develop a common understanding about the link between disaster and development management.

CBDRM2

Community participatory approaches in CBDRM This is the 2nd Module, which introduces community based participatory approaches, tools and techniques used throughout the disaster risk management cycle. This session also helps the learners understand the applications of the same approaches in linking disaster risk management with the development. The tools and techniques introduced under this module will be applied to carry out the disaster risk assessment, community based disaster risk management planning; designing local initiatives and participatory monitoring and evaluation. This 3 days long learning workshop aims at developing practical skills among the learners on the applications of participatory tools and techniques to carry out CBDRM activities.
