Films are a powerful media that may create conversation, reveal truths, and inspire people and building awareness. Recognizing the potential impacts of films as an instrument for social change, the Committee of the 5th AMCDRR 2012 plans to organize an Asian Film Festival (AFIFES) on DRR for Asian Pacific Region. With the theme “Strengthening Local Capacity on Disaster Risk Reduction”, the film festival aims at building awareness of the importance of resilience to disaster at the lowest level of the community, amidst the growing challenges of disaster and climate change risks in the region.

The AFIFES on DRR invites interested parties to produce short documentary films and capture:

The diverse approaches and strategies of the different DRR actors from all fields-narratives of determination, innovation and vision;
Community’s initiatives in building their resilience to disaster-captivating stories of courage, strength and resilience;
innovative approaches at the grassroots level for building community’s resilience films that capture a new generation’s interests and concerns for DRR that include women and the younger generations.

Selected documentary films will be screened play during conference. Public discussion with actors, directors, producers, writers and communities will be organized in several locations, especially sharing experiences with the nominees and the communities.

Theme: Strengthening Local Capacity on Disaster Risk Reduction

ENTRY RULES:

The Asian Film Festival on Disaster Risk Reduction are open for all professional, communities, or private sector in Asian Countries for short documentary film and will be held on 5th AMCDRR in Yogyakarta, Indonesia;

Participants can only send one entry and there is no entry fee;

All entries should include title, synopsis, production team, story location, and concept of the theme. The short film story is expected to be able to enlighten and raise people’s awareness on Disaster Risk Reduction especially in Asian Countries;

All production team shall grant the AMCDRR committee the rights for publishing, playing and using the film after the 5th AMCDRR. The production teams shall affirm that they are the sole holder of the copyrights, and that there would be no claim and objection from other parties on the publication/reproduction/distribution of the submitted material;

All entries will be used for public learning, lesson learned, and distributed to any other countries for raising awareness on Disaster Risk Reduction. The use of this documentary film will be non-profit in nature;

Technical specification:

The duration of the film should not be longer than 15 minutes;

The production quality should be in MP4 format and the resolution should be in high-definition productions, at least 1280 x 720 pixels, but 1920 x 1080 is preferred;

All title and subtitle should be in English;

30 (thirty) Nominees will be selected by a panel of Juries. Nominees shall send their production in DVD format after announcement.
All entries should be uploaded to the AMCDRR FTP server. Submission should be done online by filling up the Online Registrations Form. We will not accept entries by email;

All entries should be submitted before September 15th, 2012 at 23:59 Jakarta time (GMT +7);

The Juries consist of Professionals on documentary film production and disaster risk reduction discipline from Asian Countries;

The Juries will choose three winners. One favorite winner will be selected by public votes on social network;

Winners will be contacted immediately after announcement (September 28, 2012) and should send their DVD to the AMCDRR
