Disaster preparedness, climate change roadshow

Organizer(s) Department of the Interior and Local Goverment
Venue
the Heroes Hall, Olongapo-Gapan Road
Date

Entitled “Magtapatan Tayo, Handa Na Ba Kayo?,” (Let's be honest. Are you ready?) this is the second Tapatan Roadshow conducted by the agency. The first roadshow was held last year, tackling transparency and accountability.

The Tapatan Roadshow aims to advocate and institutionalize the concept of disaster preparedness among local government units (LGU) region-wide and instill in the minds of the public their respective tasks and roles before, during and after a disaster.

This is also in adherence to Republic Act No. 10121, otherwise known as the “Philippine Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Act of 2010” and Republic Act No. 9729 or the Climate Change Act.

During the activity, secretary Jesse M. Robredo will be discussing DILG-relevant programs on disaster preparedness, climate change adaptation and good governance. Central Luzon’s governors, city and municipal mayors, provincial and Highly-Urbanized City (HUC) Liga ng Barangay Presidents, LGU Disaster Risk Reduction Management focal persons, Provincial and HUC Committee chairmen on Disaster, Public Information Officers of Provinces and HUCs, non-government organizations, civil society organizations, people’s organizations and non-government agencies will participate in this activity.

Other highlights include sharing of LGU best practices on disaster preparedness and presentations on the regional state of disaster preparedness, weather forecast for 2012 and Central Luzon hazard maps.
