Practical Action works to enable poor communities to build a secure future, strengthening their resilience to disasters and increasing their capacity to adapt to a changing climate. It has an ambitious vision to deliver innovative programmes and leverage the work to improve the lives of millions of people living in fragile, hazard-prone areas and vulnerable to impacts of climate change.

Practical Action is looking for a dynamic individual who is a strategic thinker with effective influencing skills. They should have demonstrable experience of formulating good practice and policy initiatives, bringing that experience to drive forward its learning and influencing on Disaster Risk Reduction and Climate Change Adaptation, in order to effect change in the policies and practices of others. They should be able to work within a culture of dynamic teams across the organisation.

S/he will have a thorough understanding of the relationship between poverty, vulnerability and disasters and climate change. S/he will use her/his expertise to build on and enhance Practical Action’s current programme policy and practice on resilience and adaptive capacity approaches and ensure that Practical Action is able to achieve significant impact internationally as DRR and CC work will be integrated with Practical Action’s other thematic areas, namely agriculture, energy, water and market systems, some knowledge of one or more of these areas would be an advantage.

Interested applicants must have a post-graduate degree in a relevant subject and at least 7 years work experience in international development, including extensive experience working in developing countries, ideally within an international NGO.
