Jamaica: Tsunami - If we fail to prepare, then we prepare to fail
The Jamaica Observer warns that there is a possibility of a tsunami striking Jamaica, and that it could have a devastating effect on the population, on the economy and on the infrastructure, since most of them are concentrated in the coastal areas. UNESCO is advocating regional preparation, cooperation and international collaboration in order to prepare for such an event. An early warning system is to be put into place within 2 years.
The government is urged to link disaster risk reduction and climate change adaptation and to build these into sustainable development planning.
