The British Red Cross helps vulnerable people in crisis, whoever and wherever they are.

The British Red Cross (BRC) seeks to respond to disasters and address humanitarian needs internationally as part of the wider Red Cross and Red Crescent movement. This is an exciting time for BRC as they embark on an expansion of our support to partners in several areas of the world, including South Asia. BRC’s current portfolio of support to partners in South Asia includes disaster risk reduction, disaster preparedness, community based health and water and sanitation in Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Nepal and Pakistan. BRC is also collaborating with Red Cross/Red Crescent national society partners in South Asia to build their organisational capacities to deliver high quality support to disaster affected and vulnerable communities.

Responsibilities

BRC is working with its partners in South Asia to develop a resilience approach to support to vulnerable communities. Through the partnerships BRC seeks to build the capacity of communities and individuals to prepare for, mitigate, deal with and recover from the crises that affect them. Resilience is a core component of BRC's activities in South Asia through which it seek to link the work in disaster response, recovery and longer-term programmes with vulnerable communities.

BRC is looking for an experienced Programme Manager to develop its portfolio of support to humanitarian activities in South Asia. S/he will manage the team of Country Representatives in the region in building dynamic partnerships that make a real difference to the lives of vulnerable people.

Qualifications

Applicants must have a good understanding of the South Asia region and considerable experience of managing humanitarian or development programmes. The successful candidate will have strong management, planning and analytical skills. S/he will have demonstrated effective management and leadership skills in a dynamic and multicultural environment. The post will involve frequent overseas travel.
