International disaster reduction day activities and celebration

On the occasion of the International Day for Disaster Reduction, the Urban Risk Reduction Project in cooperation with Ministry of Local Administration and Aleppo City Council, are preparing to implement a number of activities concerning raising awareness for society, children and youth in particular.

Activities:

1. “Home” a movie by Yann Arthus Bertrand produced in 2009 will be shown in 5 governorates at the same time in the cultural centers.
2. A song in Arabic & English describing the drought disaster that is facing Somalia and different other countries has been produced and will be launched on the IDDR.
3. A training workshop for children from age 11 to 13 years will be implemented between 9-13/10/2011 in Aleppo. The workshop will teach children how to make a radio report about "natural disasters and how to reduce it”.
4. Prepare a small leaflet about natural disasters and the International Day for Disaster Reduction to be distributed to all geography teachers to be discussed during the geography class on the IDDR.
5. Announce a drawing competition about disasters for children in cooperation with the vanguards organization.
6. Prepare a road show about natural disasters through educational and illustrative means.
