UN day 2011 & international day for disaster reduction in Japan

「国連デー」は1945年10月24日に国連憲章が発効したことを記念して設けられた国連の記念日です。今年は、「国連デー＠東北大学：東日本大震災からの復興、そして新生 ～東北から世界へ」をテーマに、東北大学川内キャンパス（仙台市）でイベントが開催されます。

3月11日の大震災後に生じた数々の課題は、東北や日本固有のものでは決してありません。東北の被災地で得た経験を今後、世界と共有し生かしていくことが重要です。東北大学で行われる「国連デー」では、被災地での経験、そして国連が世界各地での活動を通して得てきた知見と教訓を世界に向けて発信することを目指し、様々なアクターが幅広い観点から事例を交えて議論します。

当日のイベントは午前・午後の二部構成です。東北大学、神戸大学および企業からは防災・復興・新生への実践報告と提言、被災地の自治体と共に支援を行った国連の関連機関やNGO、労働組合からはパートナーシップで取り組むことの意義や有用性、そして現地のボランティア活動に参加した大学生からは自らの経験を、それぞれが世界に向けて発信する予定です。会場周辺では国連機関やボランティア団体などのブースも設置されます。日本にある国連諸機関と東北大学が共催する国連デーに、多くの皆さんの参加をお待ちしています。日本に暮らす地球市民として、私たち一人ひとりが「東北から世界へ」の発信に参加してみませんか。

UN Day 2011 & International Day for Disaster Reduction will be held on 24 October at Tohoku University in Japan by UNISDR, UNIC, UNV, other UN offices in Japan and Tohoku University. The theme is "Recovery and Regeneration from the Great East Japan Earthquake: Message from Tohoku to the world".

Number of challenges arising after the March 11 earthquake is not unique to Japan. The experience gained in the disaster area in Tohoku is important to be shared worldwide for the future. Being held at Tohoku University, "UN Day" provides information on the disaster area, that aims to transmit knowledge to the world and gain and learn from around the world through the activities of the UN and a variety of actors with a broader perspective.

The full-day event will examine the experiences since “3.11” from multiple angles and representatives from various sectors have been invited to share their experiences. The morning session will consist of two sessions, where Tohoku University, Kobe University, and private sector representatives will report on their efforts for disaster prevention and reconstruction. In the afternoon, representatives from NGOs, Japanese Trade Union Confederation, local government, and UN entities in Japan that collaborated in disaster relief activities will discuss the significance of “partnership” in such efforts. Also, student-volunteers who participated in the disaster relief activities will share their experiences. Good practices, including a declaration from the youth, will be drawn out of these discussions to be shared globally.
