Syria: A presidential decree establishes a Fund for mitigating the impact of drought and natural disasters on agricultural production

President Bashar al-Assad on Tuesday issued Legislative Decree No. 114 for 2011 on establishing the Fund for compensating those who are materially harmed for the losses and material damages inflicted on their production due to drought or natural, climatic, environmental and biological disasters, reports the Syrian Arab News Agency.

"The Decree enables peasants to continue working in agriculture in case they were subject to material losses due to environmental or climatic disasters through compensating them," said Agriculture Minister Riyad Hijab. "The Decree contributes to achieving stability for peasants being the main investors of agricultural lands," he continues.
