Tearfund is looking for a dynamic, experienced manager to lead our post-earthquake recovery projects in Leogane, Haiti. Tearfund is implementing a £3m per year recovery programme in Haiti with over 100 staff, focusing on Shelter Construction, Livelihoods, Water and Sanitation and Disaster Risk Reduction.

The Area Coordinator is responsible for the development and implementation of Tearfund’s donor funded projects in Leogane. The role includes the management of a large team of national and international staff, and the writing of donor proposals and reports. Coordination with other NGOs, local partners and government agencies is a key part of the role.

The successful candidate will have significant humanitarian sector experience, preferably including construction projects, as well as strong proven people and project management skills. Candidates must also have experience in financial management and logistics. Excellent written and spoken English is essential, plus basic spoken French.

Candidates must be able to work in potentially insecure environments, without direct supervision, to tight timeframes. Applicants must be committed to Tearfund's beliefs. The Area Coordinator (AC) is responsible for leading and managing a Tearfund Disaster Management project team. As the most senior representative for Tearfund in the project location, the AC is responsible for representation to the local authorities and to donors, and for coordination with other NGOs and UN agencies. The AC is responsible for project management and the implementation of programme quality and accountability commitments and for ensuring Tearfund policies and procedures are adhered to by staff. As a member of the programme’s Senior Management Team the AC contributes to strategic decision making and shaping of the overall strategy for the programme.
