Background

The Meteorological Services Division (MSD) of the National Environment Agency (NEA) is the national meteorological authority of Singapore for weather forecasting and warning services and climate information. They are able to engage in relevant research projects that help to understand the climate processes responsible for and impacting climate change, climate variability and extreme events in Singapore and the region. They will assist government agencies and policymakers in the formulation of climate change mitigation and adaptation strategies by providing sound climate predictions and assessments.

They will also collaborate with scientists from leading climate centres and local research institutes in projects related to climate modelling, variability and extremes studies. The Scientists will be involved in training and mentoring junior climate scientists to build up their expertise in climate science.

The Climate Scientists should possess the following qualifications and experience:

* Either a MSc or PhD degree in Climate Science, Physics, Mathematics or Meteorology.
* Strong background in climate modelling and prediction with experience in analysis and evaluation of climate model output.
* Good record of publications in peer-reviewed journals.
* Strong skills in scientific programming, including scripting languages in a Unix/Linux environment.

The scientists may also pursue other research areas in MSD such as in Weather and Environmental Prediction.
