Call for good practices renewed: making cities resilient

A message from Helena Molin-Valdes
Deputy Director, UNISDR secretariat

Dear campaign allies

1.- Please note that we are considering to extend the Making Cities Resilient campaign beyond 2011, to coincide with the 2015 Hyogo Framework for Action date. This gives us all more time to consolidate work with the cities and local governments.

2.- We encourage all campaign cities and partners to submit a nomination for the UN-Sasakawa award to highlight good practice and achievements against as many of the "ten essentials" for making cities resilient as possible.

This process will also be used to identify "role models" of resilient cities of good practice. The awards and certificates of merit will be assigned by an independent jury.

3.- The call for good practices and submissions already made to the secretariat can be used as UN-Sasakawa submission if the proponents want to complement with the information necessary (see nomination form). We have extended the deadline for the call for good practices to 28 February 2011.

The Awardees and the most illustrative good practices will be invited to present at the Global Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction in Geneva, 8-13 May 2011
