Established in 1888 Arbeiter-Samariter-Bund (ASB) is one of Germany's longest established and largest social welfare organisations. ASB entered Haiti following the January 2010 earthquake and has established projects in emergency relief; reconstruction and training. ASB is a key player in disaster risk reduction education in Indonesia and now aims to transfer institutional experience in that sector to Haiti.

Summary of job profile/responsibilities:

Prepare, plan, manage and deliver a disaster risk reduction (DRR) project targeted to improve practical DRR information delivery to children and communities in rural areas of Petit-Goave. Lead assessments, ensure meaningful participation with key government and community stakeholders and build and develop staff capacity through formal and informal methods. Participate in project design, proposal writing and presentation to donors.

Key requirements:

1. Degree in development studies or related field.
2. Minimum 3 years of related experience with a track record of donor funded project delivery.
3. Sound understanding of community participation, engagement and development.
4. Practical experience with participatory methods (e.g. PRA).
5. Experience in team building, staff training and capacity building.
6. Understanding of DRR and familiarity with Hyogo Framework for Action.
7. Excellent communication and first-rate reporting skills.
8. Fluency in French and working knowledge of English. Knowledge of Haitian Creole a distinct advantage.
9. A background in lobbying and advocacy an advantage.
10. Training/teaching experience an advantage.
11. Project cycle and financial management skills required. Experience of working with EC funding streams an advantage.
12. Creativity a strong asset.
