'Governments need to work together with the community to help deal with disaster management,' said ACS's Eduardo Gonzalez, adding that together with the Finish Meteorological Institute, ACS will head a project to strengthen the 16 islands of the Caribbean against flooding and other disasters. 'Strengthening Hydro-meteorological Operations and Services in the Caribbean Small Island Developing States,' is geared towards increasing preparedness of the islands, mainly in the region of Meteorology.

The project’s main objective is to make Caribbean societies better prepared for the adverse effects of natural disasters, and the harmful impacts of climate change.

Promoting the 18th meeting of the Special Committee on Disaster Risk Reduction to take place in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, in September, Ambassador Jose Serulle Ramia, Embassy of the Dominican Republic in Trinidad and Tobago stated, “This conference would allow Trinidad and Tobago to find common solutions with the rest of the states in the organisation on disaster risk reduction.”
