Accelerating improvements in the accuracy of one-day to two-week high-impact weather forecasts for the benefit of society, the economy and the environment. THORPEX is a key research meteorological component of the WMO Natural Disaster Reduction and Mitigation Programme.

The programme is one of the most ambitious fundamental, complex and promising international efforts in the field of atmospheric and related sciences

THORPEX, an element of the WMO World Weather Research Programme, is an international programme with a global scope which aims to accelerate improvements in the accuracy of 1-day to 2-week high-impact weather forecasts. These improvements will lead to substantial benefits for humanity, as we respond to the weather-related challenges of the 21st century. Specific areas of submission are identified in the call for papers. However abstract submission on topics relevant to the general goals of THORPEX are also welcome.

If your abstract has already been accepted, it will be included in the September programme. We also welcome new submissions until 15 July 2009. The symposium will have a limited number of slots for oral talks, since the programme will not have parallel sessions. Hence new submissions are likely to be accepted for poster presentation.
