Mexico GP17 proves resilient to risk of power outage
Information bulletin: 23 May 2017, 18:00hrs.
The Government of Mexico through the Secretary of the Interior reports that today, Tuesday 23 March, approximately at 11:00am, a power failure was registered in the Yucatan Peninsula. This failure was due to a damage in the transmission line of the Grijalva hydroelectric system that supplies electricity to the States of Chiapas, Tabasco, Campeche, Yucatan and Quintana Roo, inlcuding the city of Cancun where the 2017 Global Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction is taking place.
It is worth highlighting that since the beginning of this eventuality, the Moon Palace Hotel, venue of this meeting faced the situation with emergency power generators covering all its facilities. In spite of this, some sessions were affected by the temporary absence of air conditioning.
The Federal Commission of Electricity informed that power service was restored at 13:15 for 70 per cent of the affected users and will continue working until the situation gets fully back to normal.
