Early booking of hotel accommodation advised
- Date:1 Mar 2011
- Geneva
Early booking of accommodation is strongly advised, as other events are scheduled to take place in Geneva around the same date. Hotel accommodation may be tight in Geneva. There is additional accommodation available in France near the border with Geneva, with good public transport options that will require between 20 and 60 minutes of travel. Other options are other towns that are well connected to Geneva by train and bus, such as Lausanne.
Assistance in the booking of hotel accommodation can be obtained through American Express Travel Services (AMEX) as long as hotel rooms are available. Participants can send an email to AMEX at ax.unog.btc@aexp.com and specifying in the e-mail subject line UNISDR Global Platform on Disaster Risk Reduction 2011. Please note that AMEX will charge CHF 35 (Swiss Francs) by credit card, for services provided.
Please note that visa arrangements can take up considerable time, up to two months can be expected, so early processing is strongly advised. As Switzerland now is part of the Schengen area, travelers are now free to travel to other Schengen-area countries if they obtain a Schengen visa. If a visa for only Switzerland is obtained, the traveler can only remain in Switzerland. This means that participants will have no problem in crossing into neighboring France for hotel accommodation if they have a Schengen visa, but that those who have a visa for Switzerland only will need to find accommodation in Switzerland.
