Best Climate Practices 2017 Contest

The final results and the winner of the Best Climate Practices 2017 Award on Building Resilience to Climate Disaster Risk will be announced on International Day for Disaster Reduction, October 13.

The Best Climate Practices Award is an initiative promoting development and dissemination of new ideas and methods to address climate change and climate-related challenges.

Every year the Best Climate Practices Observatory invites users to present innovative best practices to tackle climate change or to face a related challenge. In 2017 the Best Climate Practices contest reaches its fifth edition, after the successful experiences of the “Expanding access to climate financing” competition in 2016, the 2015 contest on “Climate Change and Water Availability for Food Production”, the 2014 edition on “Energy Poverty Alleviation” and the first edition in 2013 on “Urban Resilience”.

The 2017 Best Climate Practices Award on Building Resilience to Climate Disaster Risk aims to award and promote actionable ideas and concrete projects designed to support urban and/or rural communities in preparing and responding to climate disasters, improving local resilience through enhanced preparedness and/or recovery capacity.

Out of +200 proposals received, 19 shortlisted candidates were selected for the evaluation process carried out through online voting polls on the Best Climate Practices platform and the assessment of the 2017 Expert Panel composed by high-profile experts from international universities and organisations.

The final results were obtained by combining the public’s inputs gathered through the online voting and the assessment of the international Expert Panel, this year featuring: Carlo Carraro (ICCG, GGKP and Ca’ Foscari University of Venice), Paola Albrito (United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction, UNISDR), Elisa Calliari (Fondazione Eni Enrico Mattei), Federica Ranghieri (World Bank), Reinhard Mechler (International Institute for Applied Systems Analysis, IIASA) and Knud Falk (Red Cross Red Crescent Climate Centre).

The final results and the winner of the Best Climate Practices 2017 Award on Building Resilience to Climate Disaster Risk will be announced on the Best Climate practices website, the ICCG website, and social networks.

Background

The Best Climate Practices Observatory is a project of ICCG (iccgov.org). ICCG was founded in 2009 as a joint initiative of Fondazione Eni Enrico Mattei (FEEM, feem.it) and Fondazione Giorgio Cini, named “International Center for Climate Governance”. In 2017, ICCG became a FEEM international dissemination project with a new name, Initiative on Climate Change policy and Governance, and continues to focus its activities on the design of climate policy and related governance issues.
