Risk industry: Co-design next generation data hubs

Organizer(s) Institute for Environmental Analytics
Venue
Pentahotel, Oxford Rd.
Date

Join us as we host this unique opportunity on behalf of the NextGEOSS project, for end users to influence development of the next generation of Earth observation (EO) data for use in the disaster risk reduction community.

In conjunction with new data collaboration platform Oasis HUB, the IEA is hosting this free one-day event to introduce users of environmental and EO data for disaster risk reduction to cutting-edge platforms being built to offer stakeholders greater access to international environmental data repositories.

If you work in the area of disaster risk management or reinsurance sector, this is your opportunity to influence new hubs being developed to enable user-friendly access and exploitation of reliable and robust data.

You will also be able to meet and network with Risk experts and leading European researchers in environmental informatics. You will share feedback on current systems, your insights into accessing appropriate data and your opinions on the new portals.

We will provide free hands-on training with real-life scenarios using real data, enabling you to give feedback directly to developers.

About NextGEOSS

The NextGEOSS project, a European contribution to GEOSS (Global Earth Observation System of Systems), proposes to develop the next generation centralised hub for EO data, where users can connect to access data and deploy EO-based applications. The concept revolves around providing the data and resources to the users’ communities, together with Cloud resources, seamlessly connected to provide an integrated ecosystem for supporting applications. A central component of NextGEOSS is the strong emphasis put on engaging the communities of providers and users, and bridging the space in between.

About Oasis HUB

The Oasis HUB is an online portal/marketplace for publishing and purchasing environmental data, adaptation planning tools, models and services. It aims to increase the availability of information on catastrophe and climate change risk and to assist the development of evidence-based climate adaptation planning. Oasis HUB is a joint initiative of EIT Climate-KIC, Oasis Loss Modelling Framework (LMF) Ltd and the Oasis+ Consortium.

Tools available through Oasis HUB fall into the following categories:

  • Hazard Scenario
  • Meteorological
  • Mapping
  • Programming
  • Hydraulic
  • Vector
  • Statistical
