Strengthening disaster risk reduction across the Americas: Summit on the contribution of earth observation

The Summit will be held in Buenos Aires, Argentina from September 3-8, 2017 at the Intercontinental Hotel Buenos Aires. The Summit affords a unique opportunity to strengthen our collective ability to meet the multiple challenges of disaster risk reduction (DRR) in the Americas with an overarching approach to promote the use of earth observation (EO). Please visit our Summit website to register and obtain more information about the Summit, including the proposed agenda, disaster simulation exercise, capacity trainings, poster session and more. In order to facilitate an environment of active dialogue among participants, Spanish/English translation will be provided throughout the event.

Due to the high degree of interest and diverse stakeholder participation, we ask all interested parties to please apply to attend the Summit by August 13, 2017. We have reserved a limited number of hotel rooms at the Summit location at a discounted rate. Please book your hotel by August 13th. After these dates we will try our best to accommodate you in the Summit and the hotel will adjust to standard market rates. 

If you are interested in contributing to or planning sessions, discussions, side events, activities or exercise materials, it is very important that you please let us know as soon as possible. 

In addition, in preparation for attending the Summit, we are pleased to provide a special series of web-based trainings and live-webinars throughout August, offered in both Spanish and English, on topics including satellite remote sensing and how to integrate relevant data, imagery and information products into improved disaster decision making. While there are no fees to participate in the web-based trainings, registration for the training is also requested.
