Venue

Date

The EUR-OPA Major Hazards Agreement of the Council of Europe, together with the International Organisation for Migration, have gathered experiences from researchers and practitioners from a variety of geographical contexts on how migrants have been included and have participated in disaster prevention, preparedness, response and recovery activities. This new publication will be launched on 19 July at 13.30 at the Palais des Nations in Geneva in the framework of the International Dialogue on Migration on the topic “Understanding migrant vulnerabilities: A solution-based approach towards a global compact that reduces vulnerabilities and empowers migrants”.

This publication Migrants in Disaster Risk Reduction: Practices for Inclusion aims at highlighting the importance and benefits of, as well as options for, integrating migrants into decision-making, policy-setting and implementation of disaster risk reduction initiatives. It builds upon the knowledge and experiences gathered through the Migrants In Countries In Crisis (MICIC) Initiative, a global state-led process for which the International Organisation for Migration has been serving as Secretariat, as well as the Council of Europe’s EUR-OPA programme on “Migrants, asylum seekers and refugees in the context of major risks prevention and management”.

The book is available online.
