This training is meant to improve knowledge on drought contingency planning including the entire cycle of activities that go into the development of plans that are practical, result oriented, simple, participatory, realistic and supported by preparedness actions. Drought contingency planning ensures that individuals and organizations know what to do when drought strikes, and have the systems and tools to respond in a timely manner during such incidences. It means anticipating the drought occurrence and understanding how to manage it when it strikes.
This training is meant for practitioners working in the development sector and specifically those in disaster management, volunteers and staff working with organizations tasked with human development who include people working with government institutions, NGOs the UN, intergovernmental bodies and the private sector.
The training will aid participants in the understanding of:
Module 1. Preparation of the Contingency Plan
Module 2. Analysis of the plan
Module 3. Development of a drought contingency plan
Module 4. Implementation of the drought contingency plan
Module 5. Review of the drought contingency plan

Participants should be reasonably proficient in English.
