4th Coastal Hazard Management Short Course 2017

The 4th edition of the Coastal Hazard Management Short Course will be held in Brisbane 3-4 May 2017, with a study tour on 5 May. The course will cover coastal hazard management theory and practice relevant to Australia and the Asia Pacific region. This coming edition is particularly relevant in the light QCoast 2100 program, a $12M commitment from the Queensland Government to support Queensland coastal communities for the preparation of their Coastal Hazard Adaptation Strategies in the coming years.

In this course, the Queensland experience in managing coastal hazards and planning for the future will be used as a guide for intrastate, interstate, and international participants. Case studies in Australia, the Asia Pacific and the US will be considered and compared.

Purpose of this Course

This is a professional development course designed to improve the understanding of coastal hazard dynamics, modeling and impacts and to develop skills for shoreline management and coastal hazard adaptation planning.

Target Audience

You will find this course relevant if you are:

• A council or government officer in charge of coastal hazards management
• A coastal science, engineering or planning industry professional
• A scientist involved in coastal hazard adaptation research
• A science or engineering student wishing to work in the field

Course Fees

The course includes two days attendance, lunch, morning and afternoon teas, comprehensive course notes and course dinner.

Early bird rate - book and pay by 1st March 2017 AU$850+GST
Standard rate - after 1 March 2017 AU$1000+GST.

Study Tour: Study Tour of the Gold Coast on 5 May 2017, leaving and returning to Brisbane, lunch included AU$200+GST.

• Study tour of the Gold Coast and a visit of coastal management hotspots, including the Tweed River Sand Bypass System, the iconic Palm Beach, Burleigh Heads and Surfers Paradise and the artificial reef at Narrowneck. 

The course will be given by Griffith University experts and external government officers and industry professionals.

Cancellations

Notification in writing within a minimum of two weeks before the course for a 90% refund. No refunds will be available after this date. If the nominated delegate is unable to attend, the registration is transferable to other staff from the same organisation.
