Training Course on Gender in Disaster Risk Reduction

This training will provide an introduction on how to operationalize institutional policies and practice to integrate gender into disaster risk reduction. The training will develop skills and competencies in disaster risk reduction using a gender lens throughout the disaster risk reduction cycles, from assessment, analysis, planning through to implementation, monitoring, and evaluation.

Course Goal

To ensure participants are provided with tools and practical understanding to integrate gender issues into disaster risk reduction policies and practice. The training will build an awareness of gender equality, build gender competence and enable participants to promote gender equality goals in their work at all levels. Participants will gain knowledge in the use of gender analysis tools, the collection of gender-sensitive data and the use of data to plan in a systematic way.

Course Module

Module 1: Key concepts and links: Gender and DRR

  • Session 1: Gender and Sex
  • Session 2: Power
  • Session: 3: How gender relates to how people are affected by disasters

Module 2: Gender mainstreaming

  • Session 1: Sex, Disability and Age Disaggregated Data
  • Session 2: Development of Gender impact analysis
  • Session 3: Capability and Vulnerability Analysis- gendered analysis of capability and vulnerability

Module 3: Gender-Based Violence

  • Session 1: Gender-based violence in disasters
  • Session 2: IASC guidelines on integrating GBV into humanitarian programming

Module 4: Climate and Disaster Risk Reduction Assessment and planning

  • Session 1: Risk environment and gender
  • Session 2: Emergency preparedness

Target Participants

Project staff, government and non-government partners who are involved in the design, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of climate change and disaster risk reduction activities. The training will include practical guidance on addressing gender and women’s empowerment in climate change and disaster risk reduction. It will provide information on the practical application of the Sendai Framework of Action, including specific guidance on AMCDRR outcome documents and tools to link sustainable development goals, the Paris Agreement and the Agenda for Humanity.

Course Fee

Package A without accommodation: USD1,075

Package B with accommodation: USD1,375

The standard course fee of USD1,075 covers the course tuition, training materials, meeting package, and study visits. Participants will be responsible for their own travel expenses and arrangements, airport transfers, visa application, lunch and dinners, health and accident insurance, and other personal expenses.

Participants who want to stay at the hotel where the course will be conducted can choose an alternative course fee package B.

Registration
