World Tsunami Awareness Day (WATD) in Aceh, Indonesia

On the occasion of World Tsunami Day commemoration, the Aceh Province, as the westernmost point province in Indonesia that was devastated by Tsunami in 2004, will hold a series of events from 3 to 5 November 2016 at the Aceh Tsunami Museum, Banda Aceh, Indonesia. More than 1000 people are expected to participate in the event.

The activities are the following:

  • workshop about Kamishibai for teachers;
  • tsunami drills;
  • presentations about disaster and mitigation by high school students;
  • drawing competitions;
  • closing ceremony. 

The closing ceremony on November 5th, 2016 will be attended by Aceh's Governor (or the representatives), Ambassadors from some countries, Banda Aceh's mayor (or the representatives), Japan Embassy, and other VIP guests.

This event is fully supported by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) in cooperation with the University of Syiah Kuala, the Aceh Tsunami Museum, the Office of International Affairs of Syiah Kuala University, the Aceh Government, the Banda Aceh Municipality, the Ministry of Education, and the Aceh Besar Regency.
