Earthquake Tsunami Drill Jamaica Energy Partners and ODPEM

The Jamaica Energy Partners Tsunami Drill exercise is organised by Jamaica Energy Partners and the Office of Disaster Preparedness and Emergency Management (ODPEM) and examines a plant’s emergency response capacities to determine its appropriateness in the context of a major tsunami triggered by an earthquake posited on a combination of two realities:

  • The plant is at threat from earthquakes and tsunamis.
  • The plant and by extension Jamaica’s disaster response and experience to tsunami planning is limited.

Exercise Specific Objectives

  1. To examine the ODPEM Tsunami Warning  Information Dissemination Protocol triggered by the occurrence of an earthquake-generated tsunami.
  2. To practice and examine the Plant’s Evacuation procedures namely In-land and Vertical (DB2 Roof) evacuations.
  3. To practice the Plant’s general response to Earthquakes, Tsunamis and Fire Warning.
  4. To test the alerting mechanisms in place (siren and other means).
  5. To identify issues related to a Plant’s Evacuation Procedures.
  6. To  analyse the support role of agencies / parish emergency operations centres and Incident Command System based on the scenario.
