Venue
Ecumenical Centre, Route de Ferney 150
Date

The roundtable, co-organized by Joint Learning Initiative, World Council of Churches and Soka Gakkai International (SGI), will bring together representatives from UN agencies, NGOs and academic institutions that will highlight the role of faith-based organizations (FBOs) in implementing the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction.

The exhibition “Restoring Our Humanity” was jointly created by the Asian Disaster Reduction and Response Network (ADRRN)  and the SGI and was first shown at the World Humanitarian Summit earlier this year. The aim of the exhibition is to encourage viewers to reflect on actions they can take at individual, community and global levels to address humanitarian issues.

Intended Audience

We welcome those who are keen on the Sendai Framework itself and civil society's role in implementing it.

What's Included

In addition to the exhibition, some photo panels produced by the city of Rikuzentakata City in Iwate Prefecture, Japan, will be on display. The city was severely affected by the March 2011 earthquake and tsunami and is currently making a remarkable recovery with the spirit of “Building back better.” The panels depict genuine scenes of both the destruction and the recovery.

These are held at the Ecumenical Centre in Geneva on October 10, 2016, in commemoration of the International Day for Disaster Reduction. The roundtable starts at 2pm and the opening ceremony of the exhibition will start at 4pm.

The exhibition will be on display until October 14.
