The "Private sector workshop on Disaster Risk Reduction", organised by the Swiss Development and Cooperation Agency (SDC) in cooperation with the United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNISDR), aimed at mapping out and engaging the local private sector in Disaster Risk Reduction as well as strengthen cooperation of the private sector with the local governments in Jordan.

The 2-day workshop in Amman falls under the umbrella of the project “Strengthening DRR in 5 Jordanian Cities” which targets the the set up of Disaster Risk Management units within the Ministry of Interior and five Governorates in Jordan: Irbid, Zarqa, Al Balqa, Madaba and Jerash.

During the workshop, the project progress was presented and the 5 project cities (Irbid, Zarqa, Al Balqa, Madaba and Jerash) introduced their resilience action plans. The meeting also emphasized on the business case of DRR and the importance of engaging the private sector with local governments.

The workshop is intend for National government officials, local government representatives from Irbid, Zarqa, Al Balqa, Madaba and Jerash, private sector.
