World Water Week 2015

The World Water Week in Stockholm is a global water conference that focuses on big issues and practical solutions. It attracts experts, opinion leaders and decision makers from every corner of the planet.

The 2015 theme is “Water for Development”. This year is the target year for achieving the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs). Although some progress has been made, the challenge remains for the world community to formulate, commit to and to urgently pursue a new set of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The programme of 2015 World Water Week consist of over 160 events and 8 workshops. It will also feature the following events on disaster risk reduction:

  • A preventive approach to water and disaster risk reduction
    A seminar on the latest knowledge and experiences of strengthened resilience to climate and disaster risks and practical examples of possible issues for increased cooperation and exchange on flood reduction by the Delta Coalition
  • Managing change: strengthening resilience to climate and disaster risks
    This workshop will discuss climate and disaster resilience in the context of sustainable development. Discussions will revolve around a framework for managing change coupled to policy approaches to achieve this. Case studies that integrate resilience to disaster and climate risk through management of water and energy resources will be highlighted.
