A multi-stakeholder pan-African consultation on a post-2015 framework for disaster risk reduction took place in Nairobi, 25-26 November 2013.

Participants emphasised the importance of HFA-1 continuation to support the varying levels of implementation in Africa over ten years. DRR integration with climate change adaption for resilience was highlighted along with local action supported by national government.

Co-chaired by the African Union Commission and UNISDR Regional Office for Africa, the meeting convened representatives from governments, inter-governmental organisations, international development partners and civil society representatives who joined efforts to develop a continental position on HFA-2.

The consultative meeting is the first in a three step process to shape an Africa Position for HFA-2. The summary statement endorsed by the participants is the first step followed by an Africa Working Group meeting in Abuja.
Africa’s position will be finally endorsed by ministers at the Fifth Africa Regional Platform in Abuja, Nigeria in May 2014.
