"Building capacity of coastal communities of GOA – INDIA to minimize risks from disasters and impacts of climate change"

Background

Saritsa Foundation in partnership with Government of Goa is organizing workshops for coastal communities of Goa at 6 Sub divisions of south Goa district to raise their awareness and impart education and practical training to build their capacity to cope with disasters and climate change.

This training event is aimed to mainstream most vulnerable coastal communities like fishermen ,rural people, local people in governance from elected village bodies, women self help groups,youth and school children as well as representative of local government. These workshops shall highlight the participatory methods of capacity building for DRR, thus transforming DRR as people centered, people led and people owned campaign.

It focuses on the importance of integrating community as well as people in governance. It asserts that losses from disasters can be minimized by increasing individual awareness and capacity to enhance readiness of the people who are nucleus of DRR.
