Disaster management training course

MAIN ORGANIZER(S): Center for International Humanitarian Cooperation, the

Type: Training Course Date: 06 - 12 May 2012 Location: Spain (Barcelona)

The climate change is now a reality that can no longer be ignored. The challenges caused by the climate change are becoming evident each day and need to be addressed with trained and capable experts all over the world in order to minimize the damages and consequences. Past natural disasters have made clear the need for improvement in this sector and how much must be done in order to achieve universal standards of preparedness, prevention, and management of disasters. This is evident especially in Central America, where the destruction due to weather, earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, and floods and tides are daily phenomena.

The CIHC offers one-week intensive training programs for senior level personnel of organizations that respond to resulting complex emergencies. Using as its model the CIHC’s highly successful International Diploma in Humanitarian Assistance (IDHA) program, these training programs would be held throughout the world.

The DMTC community now numbers over 55 graduates from over 8 nations, the great majority of whom are aid workers with field experience. DMTC graduates and faculty represent most UN agencies, as well as all major non-governmental humanitarian organizations, and military, diplomatic, academic, political, and religious groups from around the world.
