International day for disaster reduction - Algeria
For the 'Making Cities Resilient campaign', Algeria is abounding in events linked with disaster reduction the first two weeks of the month of October. The “El Ansam” earthquake of October 10th 1980 will be commemorated on October 10th with the organization of a seminar that will review the Algerian earthquake rules and regulations. This event will bring together national and regional institutions that are involved with earthquake risk and reduction.
On October 13th, two events will take place to honor the International Day for Disaster Reduction. The first will involve the presentation of the results of the study conducted by the UNDP, whose initial aim was to reinforce the institutional capacities to reduce the vulnerabilities of the nine central ‘wilayas’, or departments. The second event, organized by the Ministere de l’Interieure, will revolve around the prevention of natural disasters. This international congress will provide an opportunity to exchange experiences, through the various forms of communication.
