Description

As a foundation to capacity building and disaster risk reduction, the CORE training workshops offer for the first time the opportunity for governments and humanitarian agencies worldwide to agree a consensus to deliver together the same basic introductory technical training. The workshops carry with them the messages of Camp Co-ordination and Camp Management, Early Recovery, Emergency Shelter, Protection and WASH globally and Mainstreaming DRR with Development. The five day Common Operational Recovery Essentials (CORE) training is the outcome of a collaborative effort to develop a basic technical understanding and build a common language on Humanitarian Work, Disaster Risk Reduction and Capacity Building. It also acts as a foundation for capacity building activities and an introduction to the technical IASC clusters
Who should take this course?

This course is open to all humanitarian and government stakeholders who are wishing to gain an a basic common understanding and training overview in Disaster Risk Reduction and Capacity Building.

What are the course outcomes?

At the end of the course participants would be able to:

• Gain a common understanding of key technical topics that would prepare them for disaster response
• Appreciate the background, evolution and nature of humanitarian work
• Understand the role of the Disaster Cycle in humanitarian and risk reduction work
• State key pointers for assessments, monitoring and evaluation in humanitarian work
• Understandand apply humanitarian response standards
• Understand the different roles of the clusters and other humanitarian stakeholders
• Understand key issues in cultural, political and organisational environment of relief assistance
• Explain the essential concepts of disaster risk reduction
