From July 2-6, 2012, the Understanding Risk (UR) Community will convene in Cape Town, South Africa for the biennial UR Forum.
The 2012 theme is "Mapping Global Risk," which highlights the essential role of spatial hazard, exposure and vulnerability data in understanding risk and making informed decisions to build resilience.
The Forum will consist of: UR conference sessions showcasing new ideas in disaster risk assessment; a series of technical training sessions in emerging risk assessment tools and methodologies; and various meetings of risk assessment communities of practice.
Topics covered include: hazard and vulnerability analysis, open data, Geographic Information Systems (GIS), insurance and reinsurance, remote sensing, Web 2.0 technologies, and climate change adaptation among others.
