Third THORPEX International Science Symposium TTISS

  • Type: Meeting or Conference
  • Date: 14-18 Sep 2009
  • Location: United States of America (Monterey, California)

Accelerating improvements in the accuracy of one-day to two-week high-impact weather forecasts for the benefit of society, the economy and the environment. THORPEX is a key research meteorological component of the WMO Natural Disaster Reduction and Mitigation Programme.

The programme is one of the most ambitious fundamental, complex and promising international efforts in the field of atmospheric and related sciences

THORPEX, an element of the WMO World Weather Research Programme, is an international programme with a global scope which aims to accelerate improvements in the accuracy of 1-day to 2-week high-impact weather forecasts. These improvements will lead to substantial benefits for humanity, as we respond to the weather-related challenges of the 21st century. Specific areas of submission are identified in the call for papers. However abstract submission on topics relevant to the general goals of THORPEX are also welcome.

If your abstract has already been accepted, it will be included in the September programme. We also welcome new submissions until 15 July 2009. The symposium will have a limited number of slots for oral talks, since the programme will not have parallel sessions. Hence new submissions are likely to be accepted for poster presentation.

Additional information

How to register

Registration and hotel reservation at the conference hotel can be made at: http://www.regonline.com/TTISS where a block of rooms has been set aside at a special rate. If you have already registered for the symposium prior to postponement, than you do not need to reregister. If you reserved a room at the Portola Hotel for the earlier dates of the conference in May, you need to make reservations for the new dates. We are, however, exploring, transfering existing reservations to the new dates. Stay tuned for further updates.

Participants who do not have internationally accepted credit/debit cards should, at this time, contact Nathalie Tournier (NTournier@wmo.int) to facilitate their registration. Monterey is a popular vacation and conference destination, so it is in your interest to make your hotel reservation early.
