Funded by DFID, the project aims to make schools in high-risk disaster areas safer, enabling them to act as a locus for disaster risk reduction, and institutionalise implementation of the Hyogo Framework for Action within education systems.\n\n\n\nWorking in close partnership with schools, local communities, educational institutions and networks as well as national and local governments and international agencies, the project has made great strides in prevention, mitigation and preparedness in seven countries across Asia, Africa and the Americas.\n\n\n\nTo mark the closing of the project and the beginning of a new strategic direction in our DRR through Schools work, ActionAid is hosting two regional workshops – one in Asia and one in Africa – bringing together disaster risk reduction practitioners and education experts, as well as donors, policymakers and other relevant stakeholders.\n\n\n\nThe workshops will provide a forum for information exchange and sharing of good practice, as well as an opportunity to debate and address issues arising from grassroots through to local and national governments. Project representatives from each of the seven implementing countries; Bangladesh, India, Nepal, Kenya, Ghana, Malawi and Haiti, will share key learning and methodology, and guests will be invited to share contributions from their own DRR experience. \n\n\n\nThe knowledge and learning gathered from the workshops will feed into the development of a future strategy for sustaining and integrating DRR and climate change adaptation into development programming.\n\nEvent fee\nno registration fee\n\nWhat is included in the event fee\nActionAid will provide lunch and refreshments at the venue for all participants for the two days of the workshop, however participants are requested to cover their own travel and accommodation expenses for the duration of their stay, as well as dinner and miscellaneous costs.
