The avalanche hazard has been seriously considered by the Turkish government following the disasters of 1992 and 1993. The European Centre for Natural Disaster Training (AFEM), established in 1988 in the framework of an agreement of the European Council, aims to form and inform people in charge of crises prevention and management related to natural disasters. In 1994, the General Direction of natural disasters has signed a protocole with the French Cemagref and the Swiss SLF in order to set up a Turkish avalanche group, named Cagem. This group is responsible for the cartography, the development of paravalanche systems and of education in the field of snow and avalanches. This CD is the first of a series on the theme of avalanches. (UNESCO) This CD prepared in 2004 by Turkish Avalanche Group (ÇAGEM).
