This flyer relates the history of the Arenal volcano. It was only after the disastrous eruption of July 1968 that important volcanological research related to this site was undertaken. The drawing of geological maps unravelled the complete history of the volcano, from its very beginnings some 7000 years ago until nowadays. It also describes the various volcano-related hazards, with a focus on adequate land-use and the reduction of possible future disasters, with a view to inform the neighbouring population about the hazards that could affect their habitat.
