This booklet explores the various types of floods, almost all areas of Costa Rica being flood-prone and examines natural (atmospheric phenomena, avalanches, etc.) and anthropogenic factors generating floods, their impact. Provides also a geographical distribution of floods, with recurrence periods. Provides advice to mitigate the effects of floods before, during and after. (UNEsCO)
