This book, after an evocation of the feelings and the collective fears of men facing natural disasters, deals with each type of hazard encountered in France and its Overseas Departments and Territories (flood, landslide, earthquake, volcano, wildfire, avalanche, storm, cyclone), from their causes to their consequences, illustrated with some examples and key definitions. It also considers the scientific studies carried out in the field, before providing a definition of the measures undertaken by the government, with a summary of legal developments in the field of disaster reduction since 1971.
