How to build a safer shelter

This carefully illustrated guide to how to build a safe shelter addresses cyclone-resistant construction. Full-color, labelled illustrations demonstrate the primary parts of a safer shelter. The basic principles of anchoring, bracing, and continuity for bamboo construction are illustrated. The importance of safe site selection and orientation and building shape are explained. Detailed description and illustrations show anchoring with solid footings, and strong well-tightened framing, diagonal bracing applications, fastening roof, attic construction (for flood protection), and bamboo walls, windows and doors for storm and rain protection are illustrated. The final pages address maintenance, a model house, and list of materials. This brochure makes safe bamboo construction accessible to the general public, as well as providing guidance for construction workers.
