Description

The course is designed as a stand alone program. Students need to enrol in the specialization Sociology of Rural Development and can then opt to do their major thesis with Disaster Studies. The program comprises a compulsory specialization course (Sociology in Development) and a thesis preparation course (Conflict, Development and Disaster). The program also includes an MSc thesis in Disaster Studies, if desired in combination with an internship.
In coordination with the study advisor the students from other specialisations may opt for combining several courses to an MSc Minor in Disaster Studies. The MSc thesis in Disaster Studies will typically comprise fieldwork in a (post) emergency affected area. For further information please see program details.

Admission Requirement

At least a BSc degree (or equivalent) in a field of science relevant to the specific programme selected, A Grade Point Average (GPA) for the BSc study of at least 70% of the maximum scale, Fluency in English, both written and spoken, Good skills in mathematics and/or statistics, Basic computer skills. Application Procedure

Completed Application form, original transcripts, English proficiency test scores and a summary of BSc thesis report or another relevant research paper in English or Dutch (two pages maximum). This paper must include the contact details of academic supervisor (if available) or letter of recommendation from professor or employer. Application can be submitted online or applicants can download the application form to submit the application by post. The fully documented application should be submitted to the Central Student Administration.

A wide range of fellowships and study grants are available from university and other sources.
