This paper presents background information as input to the African Regional Workshop on Adaptation. It is wide in scope as it broadly covers the main issues relating to impacts, vulnerability and adaptation to climate change in relation to Africa. It aims at facilitating an indepth discussion on these issues. It draws upon recent studies on vulnerability and adaptation, national communications and other reports, and extracts lessons from the studies which employed both a top-down scenario-driven approach, as well as those that adopted bottom-up approaches.
